HIV Learning Network LogoJoin the next HIV Learning Network session on May 11 @ 12:00pm (Pacific) for Start to Finish: Patient Perspectives on Rapid ART and Linkage to HIV Care, by Yomi Obafemi, MD, MPH, Director, Denver Sexual Health Clinic, Public Health Institute at Denver Health.

Description: Immediate antiretroviral therapy (ART) means starting HIV treatment as soon as possible after the diagnosis of HIV infection, preferably on the first clinic visit (and even on the same day as the HIV diagnosis). Immediate ART initiation may bring earlier benefits in personal health, and earlier reductions in the risk of onward transmission of HIV. For persons with acute infection, immediate ART may limit the HIV viral reservoir. In this session, Dr. Yomi Obafemi, MD, MPH will describe the findings from key informant interviews conducted for patients enrolled in the Fast Antiretroviral Start program at Denver Sexual Health Clinic. We’ll discuss the early findings from the interviews to better understand facilitators and barriers of starting antiretroviral therapy and linkage to care for persons newly diagnosed with HIV.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify barriers for linking persons newly diagnosed with HIV to care
  2. Describe strategies for optimizing linkage to care for persons newly diagnosed with HIV
