Utilizing Pharmacists as Prescribers to Expand PrEP Access

Wednesday, October 9, 2024, 11am – 1pm Pacific
Description

California and Nevada have enacted legislation allowing pharmacists to prescribe PrEP and PEP to anyone who wants it. While insurers now cover most associated costs, many pharmacies still face challenges in implementing these services. In this session, Dr. Christina Madison, PharmD, FCCP, AAHIVP, will discuss the obstacles pharmacies encounter and share strategies to help them succeed as PrEP/PEP providers. We’ll also examine strategies for clinic-pharmacist collaboration to ensure patients receive continuous care and prescription coverage, and introduce an implementation tool to help FQHCs expand PrEP/PEP services by integrating pharmacists into their care plans.

Audience

This session will be valuable to all PrEP programs, especially those interested in participating in HIV prevention research.

Featured Speaker

Dr. Madison is a past President of the Nevada Public Health Association with an intimate knowledge of the impact public policy and legislation can have on communities. A trusted healthcare professional with over 12 years of experience in Public Health.
