Women and HIV
Both the prevention and treatment of HIV in women present various challenges that differ from their male counterparts. Antiretroviral use affects the female reproductive system, including the use of hormonal contraception, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in women. Women also experience unique and different adverse events affecting gynecological, cardiovascular, and neurological systems.
