Black Men’s HIV Leadership Capacity Building Initiative
We are cultivating a vibrant community dedicated to enhancing leadership skills and fostering the professional growth of Black men within the HIV workforce. Through online and in-person learning sessions, we aim to enable Black men to drive social change and advance health and racial equity in the HIV service delivery system. Join us in co-creating a supportive and inclusive environment where Black men can thrive as leaders in a holistic approach to men’s sexual health.
Introducing the Learning Collaborative
As part of this initiative, the Learning Collaborative is a one-year program designed to elevate and support a cohort of Black men leaders across the HIV workforce, from emerging to experienced. Launching with a kickoff event on March 21 – 22, 2025, supporting Brothers of the Desert Wellness Summit, this collaborative offers a space to further develop leadership skills, exchange strategies, and build a network of peers committed to advancing health and racial equity in the HIV field.
What Can You Expect?
Kickoff Event: A dynamic introduction at the Brothers of the Desert summit in March 2025, setting the stage for community building, program initiation, and shared goals.
Monthly Sessions: Interactive workshops on leadership, career advancement, and managing systemic barriers.
Networking Opportunities: Build valuable connections with peers and experienced leaders in the field.
Mentorship: Opportunities to connect with others, share insights, and receive support.
Who Should Apply?
We welcome Black men (inclusive of cis, trans, and non-binary experience) of the African Diaspora in the HIV and sexual health workforce, including:
- Healthcare providers
- Public health professionals
- Social workers
- Community Health Workers
- Other Non-Clinical Professionals

- Describe ways in which the historical legacy of HIV/AIDS shapes current efforts in the HIV workforce.

Unity in Action: Cultivating Collective and Professional Power in the HIV Workforce

- Discuss workforce development strategies that foster learning and professional development for Black men in the context of the HIV landscape.
- Recognize Black men’s capacity to implement community-building strategies within healthcare and health professional organizations.
- Identify opportunities and best practices aimed at nurturing leadership capacity, knowledge, and skills among Black men in the HIV workforce.
