National Transgender HIV Testing Day

March 11, 2016

As we approach the inaugural National Transgender HIV Testing Day (NTHTD) on April 18, 2016, the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health (CoE) wants to take this opportunity to provide you with a few updates.  NTHTD is a day to recognize the importance of routine HIV testing, status awareness and continued focus on HIV prevention and treatment efforts among transgender people.  This initiative encourages community-based organizations (CBOs), health jurisdictions and HIV prevention programs to participate by hosting local trans HIV testing community events (HIV testing, visibility campaign, community forums) and/or develop trans specific HIV testing campaign materials and resources.
The official announcement of the NTHTD 2016 will include the release of a National Transgender HIV Testing Toolkit.  As the CoE finalizes NTHTD materials and anticipate its formal announcement, we encourage all HIV prevention partners to start thinking and planning ahead for their local NTHTD event.  The release of the toolkit in the next couple of weeks will support your local efforts in increasing HIV status awareness and engaging trans people in their health.
